The shoot begins with a telephone consultation getting to know your family and deciding what and where would be best for your shoot. What locations inspire you and your family? Is it forests, beaches, out in the hills; there are endless possibilties. We can either do this over the phone, though I am very happy to meet in person to discuss ideas form where shall we go, to the time to what to wear.
We will then set a date. I only ever do one portrait shoot a day. I feel this way I can offer my clients the maximum opportunity for getting the most beautiful light and also takes the pressure off you. Feel free to bring a picnic along too as weather permitting it can be a lovely thing to do. This is a day for you and your family.
Timewise, for younger kids I recommend starting early as they are often at their best at such a time. Equally happy though to early evening in the hope of capturing that magical late afternoon light. And please don't be anxious if the weather is not gloriously sunny, an overcast day can actually provide a more flattering light, and the odd bit of drizzle can make for very fun images such as splashing in puddles!
A portrait shoot should be about feeling relaxed, going off to great locations and being prepared to stomp through mud, or splash in the sea and not being overly fussed about getting a bit wet or dirty!
The result; you will have a collection of inspiring images of your family that will last for years to come!
